Sunrise at the 25. I was a fueler for a team this year. I worked the pit from 11 am to 6 pm, 9 pm to 4 am, and 9 am to noon.

Little help? I have to watch "the" football game tonight with someone. Is there only one? Who is playing? What can I know to make me seem not 100% clueless about football?

The New Orleans Hornets are expected to become the New Orleans Pelicans, perhaps as early as the 2013-14 season, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.

Associated Press reports don't get much more grim than this one, concerning the death of a youth-soccer referee after he was beaten by a group of kids from the game he was officiating:

A man who was working as a linesman during a youth soccer match in the Netherlands has died after being beaten and kicked by several players.

Richard Nieuwenhuizen collapsed and was rushed to the hospital hours after players from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten punched and kicked him. Nieuwenhuizen's club, Buitenboys, announced the death Monday but not the exact cause.

Three players, whose ages range from 15 to 16, were arrested earlier Monday for alleged involvement in the beating.

Dutch sports minister Edith Schippers told national broadcaster NOS even before the news of Nieuwenhuizen's death that ''it is absolutely terrible that something like this can happen on a Dutch sports field.''

Police spokeswoman Leonie Bosselaar said shortly before the linesman's death was announced that the players were still in custody.

Now, details are a bit muddy. Nieuwenhuizen didn't collapse until "hours after" the attack took place, suggesting that he was up and functioning properly after being beaten. We'll update when we know more.

Joe Coffman is a modern Texan. This means that Mary Sue is a pretty, loving and understanding wife, that his sons Bobby, 6, and Larry, 4, are healthy and happy, that his business is successful (four other branches in Austin, San Antonio, Lubbock and Amarillo), that his ranch-type home is comfortable, with all of the built-ins manufacturers sell these days, that he has a 1963 Oldsmobile Starfire and a 1962 Impala (both convertibles), that his close friends are mostly the ones he grew up with or knew in high school and college. Being a modern Texan also means that Joe Coffman might not recognize a cow pony if it were tied on a leash in his backyard, that he despises Stetson hats, that he likes cashmere sport coats, pin-collar shirts, Las Vegas, playing golf at Colonial Country Club, Barbra Streisand ("Think she can't sing?"), good food, good booze, Barry Goldwater and, more than anything else, the Texas Longhorns. And does he like those Longhorns!
