I think I mentioned this before, but a kid from my (and b.'s) high school (long after we were there obviously) has gone on to be quite a basketball player: Nik Stauskas. He's a guard on the second seed University of Michigan squad, and Big Ten player of the year.

When we were in school the basketball team was pitiful (I played varsity!) but now has become something of a powerhouse. Back in the day we were known for hockey, with 3 players who were there during our years (out of ~400 in the entire school) making it to the NHL. Not sure how these things work, and why they suddenly are good at basketball. Maybe you recruit the right coach? Or just get lucky with a great player and then others follow?

In any case, Go Lions. Or something.

Once I was able to find the NBC 2014 Olympics full replay stream I discovered that it doesn't have pause, fast forward or rewind functions. The commercial breaks are frequent but too short to be of much use. Guess I should have a cooler and piss jar next to the sofa.

havent watched any basketball this season but i like to check out the scores now and again. just saw that carmelo anthony has 43 points 3 minutes into the second half. how many players have scored 60 points in a game?

This feat has been accomplished 62 times in NBA history. Twenty different players have scored 60 or more points in a game. Only four players have scored 60 points on more than one occasion: Wilt Chamberlain 32 times, Michael Jordan five times, Kobe Bryant five times, and Elgin Baylor four times.

While everyone's free to be as nostalgic as they like about Candlestick Park now that it's probably seen the end of its useful life, it's worth remembering that it wasn't only a miserable place to watch a game, but also a forerunner of the modern public financing con. The piece below, which originally ran in the San Francisco Bay Guardian in 1972 1968 and is reprinted by permission of the author, lays out the mechanics of the scam, which should sound awfully familiar.
