The Willow above, blooming at the edge of the Reservoir, appears to be a Basket Willow. The flexible withies were really more useful as woven containers than as whips. Europeans brought this species here for its utility; it could be the very one used to punish little Jesus.
That's assuming he actually lived in medieval Britain.
Willows also produce the beloved drug aspirin, but the Pussy Willow, below, is mostly medicinal to the eye.
