Hm. Haven't seen either of those. Meantime, Abigail's Party, High Hopes, Life is Sweet, and Secrets and Lies are all pretty harsh. Even Career Girls has its share of pain.

Nuts in May is hilarious. Meantime is probably my fave Mike Leigh. I swear Phil Daniels acting is some of the best ever, his delivery so sharp that it leaves me in stitches.

I wanted to get Safe Men by whatshisname but Netflix no offer it.

Also, I was down on Jarmusch after seeing Stranger than Paradise but saw Dead Man, and, Ghost Dog recently so I'm feeling ok about him again.

I put Secret and Lies in my Netflix queue. I don't think I've seen a Leigh before. Netflix has these:

Abigail's Party (1977)

All or Nothing (2002)

Bleak Moments (1971)

Four Days in July (1985)

Grown Ups (1980)

Hard Labour (1973)

Home Sweet Home (1982)

Kiss of Death (1977)

Meantime (1981)

Nuts in May (1976)

Secrets & Lies (1996)

Topsy-Turvy (1999)

Vera Drake (2004)

Who's Who (1979

For my money few directors rehearse and work with actors as well as Leigh, he's brought a good number of the greatest performances to the screen. I like all on this list that I've seen, which is most of them. Haven't seen Vera Drake yet but hear it's very good.

I'd recommend adding Meantime and Topsy-Turvy for starters, kind of polar opposites as far as his work goes.

They don't offer Life Is Sweet? Too bad.
