"I worked hard not to make him an asshole but to make him an idiot, which is a different thing. An asshole is an idiot who thinks not caring if you love him is adorable. Whereas an idiot doesn't know that what he's doing is alienating you. He wants you to love him still.")

cant put my finger on what appealed to me in this headline.

BoJack Horseman, Rick And Morty, and the art of cynical sincerity

tonight at 8 on tcm:

Described by the New York Times as "a master of movies about the American idiom...one of our most original filmmakers," Les Blank (1935-2013) was a Florida-born documentary filmmaker best remembered for his poetic studies of American musical traditions. But, as reflected in this TCM salute, Blank's idiosyncratic films and short subjects covered a wide range of subjects including Cajun culture in the U.S. (Spend It All, 1971): black Creole life (Dry Wood, 1973); the city of New Orleans (Always for Pleasure, 1978); cooking (Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers, 1980); and the polka and its devotees (In Heaven There Is No Beer?, 1984). Of the 11 Blank films shown in our tribute, no less than eight are TCM premieres!

tv update!

ive been kind of dreading watching the second season of true detective after its lukewarm reception. i dont care much for colin farrell and even less for vince vaughn. gave it my first go round this afternoon and turned it off after 15 minutes. i couldnt make out much of what they were saying what with all the self serious murming going on. were it not for the pedigree id bail right now but if it doesnt find a reason for being beyond creating a mood i might not be around for long. even the leftovers managed to be intriguing while maintaining a sense of dread, though i hear that is in for a hard reboot for season 2 this fall.

i did find the new show humans on amc more to my liking. has the potential to turn south quickly but humanoid cyborgs as servants becoming sentient piqued my interest.

also, season 3 of masters of sex starts tonight on showtime...
