The Finlen Hotel is the place to stay in Butte.
It's in the "historic uptown" section of the city.
Too bad you can only book rooms on the first two floors,
as the upper floors would have amazing views down over
"the flats."



Like everything else in uptown Butte, the Finlen
was built in the boom years between 1885ish and 1900.
It was modeled after the Astor Hotel in NYC which
featured twin towers rising from a common base.
Unfortunately the money ran out before the building
was complete, leaving the hotel a stunted architectual
metaphore for the entire city.
