On the road I listen to Dr. Laura, et al on AM radio to understand what's up in the family values segment of the culture. One of the best was a local guy down in Luuu-siana. He was raging like a mad dog about the popular culture, but reserved special scorn for lesbians. I think he may have been deeply scarred by some romantic disappointment in high school.
I've had a nasty flu the last few days and didn't have much energy for anything more strenuous than day-time TV. You know, it all seemed so innocent in the days of Phil Donahue and Judge Wapner. As I school child I had heard about the Roman spectacles of death, but never really understood. I'm starting to get a glimmer about how that sort of thing develops in a culture.
Whether from the Judeo-Christian right or the godless liberal media elite the message is "I'll bet you had no fucking idea there were so many raving morons in this country."
"And isn't it (amusing|righteous) to (heap scorn upon|humiliate|laugh at) these (tortured souls|ignorant assholes|brain-addled morons)."
Now there's a value proposition.
Let us close with some words of inspiration from a man who once appeared on the ""I was a Slave on my Dad's Hemp Plantation"" episode of Jerry Springer ...
'I fear for my country when I reflect that God is Just".
