Letter to Mike Honda
November 16, 2002
Some members of California delegation to the federal government are accomodationist, feinstein not that I'm mentioning any names. Perhaps their aspirations for national office di fi lead them to pander to the middle. My guy in the House, Mike Honda, isn't like that.
So I've spared him of the vitriol I'm brewing up for the senators, including one di fi in particular.
Mike,
Let me first say I applaud your position statement on Iraq.
So what's the deal with the Marshall plan for Afghanistan? I know the attention span of the US public is short, but could we clean up the last mess before making another one? Could we build some schools for those little girls and boys? Or do we leave another generation of Afghan children to suffer as the detritus of other people's wars? Did you hear about the aid agency from Bangladesh helping put together schools in Afghanistan? Are you ashamed yet?
Do what you can Mike.
thanks,
-Mark

Karl Rove, Senior Advisor to President George Bush, spoke at the University of Utah a couple days ago. One wouldn't expect much dissent in that forum, but there was at least one interesting question.
A woman mentioned the 200,000 anti-war protesters who were in D.C. recently, and asked how their message could reach the president.
Rove responded with, "The way to do it is to do it the way that everybody else does, which is to talk to your representatives and petition the Congress and petition the president. You talk about 200,000 people though, with all due respect, I worry about the 3,000 people killed on 9-11."
I would have liked to have been there to offer a follow-up question. "Despite vigorous efforts, no linkage has been established between Iraq and the attacks of September 11. In fact, Saddam is an enemy of bin Laden. Yet you just implied a linkage. So, my question is this. Are you completely clueless about these critical issues, or do you think we are a bunch of morons who will buy whatever you're selling? To recapitulate, that's a) you're ignorant, or b) you think we're morons. Which is it?"
