Bike to Work Day
Finally, finally, today was my first day biking to work. I rode most of the way on the shoulder of an expressway, but that's not as crazy as it sounds. In Santa Clara County, expressways are generally boulevards, but without all the landscaping.
As I approached the Barnes & Noble on my route, I noticed a huge line, people in lawn chairs, etc. I found out later that the Big Dawg, aka Bill Clinton, who I like to call "The Elvis of Presidents", was scheduled to do a book signing.
Someone in line needed some sort of medical assistance, so one of the lanes of the expressway was blocked by an ambulance. The ambulance and the spectacle of a line at B&N for a non-Harry-Potter event turned traffic into a big cluster-Cheney.
I zoomed past dozens and dozens of stationary cars.
I rode home late, and got a chance to use my retina searing HID head light. The passenger in one car was so impressed that, after his pupils recovered, he asked me what brand it was. As I pulled away, I could swear I heard him say, "Man, those are cool fenders."
The Big Dawg extravaganza was going full force as I pedalled home. Hundreds were waiting in line or otherwise milling about. I stopped for a bit to see if I could catch a glimpse of Bill, but no such luck. As I pulled away, I could hear a section of the crowd chanting "We want Bill!"
Riding home, I thought to myself "Barnes & Noble"??!!! Why couldn't Bill go to an independent book store. Why there's a perfectly good store right in ... ummm no that one's gone ... but not far away over ... no, that one closed in the 80's ... but right there in ... no, that one gave up the ghost a couple years ago. And I suppose Pat's Used Paper Backs wouldn't set the right tone. Well, in two different adjacent counties there's a decent book store. Okay fine. B&N it is.

FOXNews Moron Alert
In Boulder Creek I'm TiVo-less, so when I tune it to the tube, I have to live with the temporal limitations of a broadcast schedule. I got tired of the CNN coverage of funeral service of some Apache attack helicopter specialist dude, so I flipped over to the FOX News-flavored Infotainment Channel.
The anchor-babe (whose hair was FABulous) kept talking about how NATO wasn't at the forefront of people's radar on the war on terra. Umm ... anchor-babe, ever heard of Afghanistan? What a door knob.
An anchor-duder chimed in to talk about how NATO might get involved in training the Iraqi puppet defense force, and pointed out that since France isn't part of NATO, they won't have to deal with that complication.
Idiots. Ill-informed, well-coiffed, moronic idiots.

He did not specify which rumors
The headline is courtesy of Editor & Publisher's critique of Dr. Paul Wolfowitz's performance before the House Armed Services Committee.
Dr. Paul has since not apologized and apologized.
Part of our problem is Deputy Secretary of Defense is afraid to travel, and sits in Washington blowing smoke out his ass.

Dole does Tim
I've always appreciated Dole's candor, even if I disagree with him. But lately watching him speak on political issues has just been sad. On Meet the Tim this weekend, at times he seemed inarticulate when the topic was politics.
On a completely superficial tangent, I can't watch Pelosi without thinking of Cheri Oteri.
