Coachella

I'm headed to the Coachella music festival later today. D is working, so she can't make it. She asked me if I'm going to be getting stoned and drunk with a bunch of twenty-somethings.

"No-o-o! They have a special section for the over 40 crowd. They'll be plenty of Lipitor, Lisinopril and Vioxx making the rounds. And we have a special mosh pit. Instead of agressively slamming into each other, people stand at arms length and gently nudge their neighbors."

Family Ghraib

In response to an item on Tom Moody's blog, I whipped out this little item. I just had to share it here.

I feel a whole new series coming on. Mary Worth, Fred Bassett, those nekid people in "Happiness is." The possibilities are endless.

Laura Ingraham Nud3

In my log I found two google searches for Ms. Ingraham in her birthday suit.

Naughty, naughty boys! You will find no such thing here.

And if you're looking for a hot homo-partisan chat between Malkin and Coulter, you won't find that here either. I put that on another page.

Bolton Bashing

D's parents are in town for an extended stay at her house. I haven't been able to spend much time with them, what with trade show preparation and all.

Her dad is an ex-Republican. The party left him. I was watching a bit of the Bolton confirmation hearing in C-Span this morning. "Bolton!", he said in a scoffing manner. I was impressed. I doubt my parents would have the slightest idea who this guy was.

I said "It would be like putting Evel Knievel in charge of highway safety." He had a good, long laugh at that one.

RFID Tyranny

Short, pithy, and worthy of a read. This was on the front page of this week's EE Times.

Sounding the alarm as Big Brother goes digital
EE Times, April 4, 2005

EET: You made a statement on RFID tags last summer before the Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. What's wrong with RFID?

Steinhardt: Placement of RFID chips on identity documents, passports and drivers' licenses — that is the major issue, not whether Wal-Mart puts RFID chips [on its stock].

[Inclusion of] RFID chips in identity documents is not a fantasy: The new standard for passports, globally [adopted] through the International Civil Aviation Organization [ICAO], is to include a contactless integrated circuit. The chip will hold all the data in the passport — significantly more data than what is now in the passport — including biometric data as well as biographical data. And it's unprotected. The United States pushed very hard to keep it unprotected.

So, now, any identity thieves or terrorists who have a reader can obtain that data. It's a frightening development. Americans who travel internationally must be afraid, very afraid, that we are essentially leaving ourselves with a big bull's-eye on our backs saying: "We are Americans."

Catholic Taliban

I was listening to Laura Ingraham on HateTalk 560 on the way home this evening. She had a writer associated with the Hoover Institution on the show. I've forgotten the name, but it may have been Peter Robinson. He was insistent that the Pope was in favor of the Iraqi war. He challenged anyone to prove otherwise. He claimed that any statements from Vatican diplomats didn't matter. They were just like the Vatican plumbers. "They're doing their job, but they don't speak with the authority of the Church". Pardon my yiddish, but what an insufferable putz.

I don't have all day to google on this, so I'll just offer two bits of proof.

"NO TO WAR"! War is not always inevitable. It is always a defeat for humanity. International law, honest dialogue, solidarity between States, the noble exercise of diplomacy: these are methods worthy of individuals and nations in resolving their differences.

ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN PAUL II TO THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS, Monday, 13 January 2003
The case for a “just war” was made at the weekend by Michael Novak, a conservative Roman Catholic theologian and a close ally of President Bush, in talks with senior Vatican officials, including Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran, the Pope’s Foreign Secretary.

...

But the Archbishop, speaking for the Pope, said that US arguments were insufficient and that there was no imminent threat from Baghdad that could justify a war.

Civiltà Cattolica (Catholic Civilisation), a Jesuit journal that reflects Vatican views, said that “the Islamic masses, which already harbour a deep hatred of the West, will see it as an act of war against Islam”. The journal said that the real US motive was economic and that the concept of “preventive war” was highly dangerous. “If every country which feels threatened attacks first, there will be war without end on the entire planet,” it said.

Pope takes issue with America's 'just war', Times Online February 10, 2003
So, Peter Robinson, if it was you on the Laura Ingraham show, do you need something more unambiguous than "NO TO WAR"? You call for "simple truths to live by", but is this one too complicated to wrap your brain around?

Filthy Nipples @ Hairy FIsh Nuts

I had fun chatting with Stankleberry on a thread that started with the topic: Man Sees Boobs on TV.

In Oslo there's a shocking display of hundreds of nude images right out doors, in plain sight, where, oh my god, the children can see! The call it Vigeland Sculpture Park, but (and I'm sure stank will agree) it's nothing but a Porn Park!

This sort of public perversion helps explain the appalling lack of puritanism in Europe. In that very park I saw young ladies playing sports with no tops! Can you imagine that? Topless Frisbee(tm)? Oh my sweet Jesus, what about the children! These brazen hussies were flashing their filthy nipples with cruel insensitivity to the permanent brain damage that would accrue to any children unfortunate enough to witness the spectacle.

I think that's what must have happened to our poor, dear stank.

Gracie May

I've never met a dog that's a picky eater. The problem with most dogs is that they are entirely indescriminate in what they eat. "Mmm, that stinks ... wonder what it tastes like."

Gracie, the almost perfect Husky mix, is a picky eater, and has gotten more so recently. D thinks she may have developed a nasal polyp, or some such thing. Since D is a vegetarian, Gracie and I have a carnivore bond. If I present the food, Gracie is much more likely to eat. This has progressed to the point that if I'm in the house, I have to be near her to encourage her to eat. At times, I even sing a little song about the food. "Here Comes Peter Cotton Tale" and "Home on the Range" work for rabbit and venison.

So anyway, this morning found me singing ...

"Amazing Gracie, now eat your chow,
it's yummy and and it's good. ..."

That dog has trained me pretty well.

El Rushbo Explains Condoms

I caught a little sound bite on the Limbaugh show while flipping channels on the way to work.

If you don't want to listen to the people that advise abstinence, just don't use the condoms distributed by the U.N. They tested worst. In fact, they're so loose and baggy they slip right off my little soldier. I use a brand called "Finger Cot" because they make me feel like I'm being held. Oh Lord, sometimes I just want to be held.
