I didn't see it, but I've heard it's good. I'm still missing the connection to the New York skyline.

So, the second piece by Mr. Ouroussoff... what do you think? This plus his first piece on the highline, is he succeeding in conquering and covering NYC in a just a few brush strokes? He sure takes a lot on in this piece.

It’s an interesting overview, but in typical Times fashion he doesn’t pass many judgments. He talks about major changes in the nature of the city without a sense of whether we should be concerned about where we’re going. The business about the urbanization of the outer boroughs is interesting, but to speak of the East River as a connecting spine is sort of silly; it remains a barrier, otherwise I’d be walking to work.

What, you don't row your sampan through the spinal fluid?

Well, I did like Fantastic Voyage when I was eight, but now that it’s been referenced in a commercial (doctor, we’ve got to get back to the ship!) it’s just not the same…

how about the water taxi alex? I took it the other day for the first time - from Chelsea to Red Hook - I was pretty happy. And it sure beats the hot smelly crowded (flooded!) subway. 5 dollars is pretty impossible though.

Yeah, I took a ferry from LIC when it was free for the first week, but it's got to be a lot cheaper, including monthly discounts, if it's going to work for what used to be the middle class. Even then it's still a bottleneck, with weather and late night issues.
