The feel is that of a high-end furniture and design showroom like the MoMA Design Store itself across the street, where many of these objects are for sale. Taking its cue from the retail world, the objects in the installation are tightly packed together, as if the aim was to offer consumers a wealth of choices rather than draw them into an atmosphere of contemplation. It's as if you have entered a storehouse for the irredeemably trendy.

I just want to remark on the significance of this piece: It is Ouroussoff's first tough stand at the NYTimes - and it is pretty relentless (understatement). This piece, plus Roberta Smith's criticism of the UBS show published on the very same day... does the Times have it out for the new MoMA? Whatever the case, if I were a curator, I would feel that the gauntlet has been thrown.

walter robinson concurs with your NYT observation and adds art forum to the enemy list, but questions the quality of the writing. [referring to art forum] "Parsing the articles inside is a more daunting (and dare we say masochistic) task, considering the slack and self-indulgent writing."

Mendacity! good word, weak comeback.
