recently heard from an old friend and college room mate. nice work man!

My oil paintings are realistic, labor-intensive works which require a great deal of research and planning. My subject matter derives from my intense interest in history, especially classical Greece and Rome, and Renaissance/Early Modern Western Europe. As I explore a particular era and read its literature, I find that certain motifs persist in the mind and demand attention. These motifs carry with them an environment engendered by their historical contexts which I combine with my own personal perceptions to create a particular atmosphere for each work. After a lot of reference work, much sketching, and one to three months of painting, the finished piece should be both visually appealing and intellectually stimulating.
