cable clamps or clips

suppose you wanted to cut down some 5' x 16' cattle fence panels to make 2x4 inch grid stair rail infill and mount them. you have to figure out what those screw in clampy clip things are called. so i started looking for metal "cable" clips and clamps and found the "P" clip named for its shape. we didnt want to just hammer staples into old barn beam to hang it. installation shots to follow.

If I had a dollar for every time I've been in that situation I'd have, well, not so much.

this may have been hard to visualize so heres those 5' x 16' horse fence panels cut down to proper height and fastened not with "p" clips but more of a "u" shaped fasteners. 3/16 not avbl so 1/4 in clip used with a little piece of clear tubing to work as a washer. (admans idea) it worked. also note the 6" x 1/2 tung and groove flooring laid with a floor nailer with only the usual surface nailing. thanks jim louis for grinding down and filing the rough cut edges on those fence panels. stair infill to follow.
