from wfmu main page yesterday. its gone now.
That looks like an Ed Ruscha idea. I found one other reference to it (in the comments). It says it appeared in late April as well. Anyway, I want to steal it for a song title.
thats where i grabbed it from. it had already disappeared from the fmu page when i went looking for it. may be brian knows where it originated.
justin sent this in. a riff on the 1941 movie i wake up screaming
and still very ed ruscha as tom points out.
I thought "I Wake Up Sampling" was a joke on "I Wake Up Screaming" (the phrase if not the movie title). The kicker is putting it in that marquee lettering with a black and white skyline behind it. [Any good joke is worth overanalyzing.] Where did that "I Wake Up Screaming" come from? It would be pretty easy to turn the E into an L, the R into a P, delete the C, and scrunch the remaining letters in Photoshop to get your "sampling."
justin sent it in but i just found it from google images here in the I's. i wasnt familiar w/ the film. glad to know.
It is funny to see the title frame isolated like that--the letters and the phrase seem even more incongruous than if all the titles were in that "font."
