Mexican Coke cultists of course have a rational explanation: Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico is sweetened with sugar, while the U.S. version is (almost) always made with high-fructose corn syrup. That is so. And it’s surprising, given the degree to which uniformity defines the Coke idea. Who knew the “secret formula” could accommodate ingredient variation? Andy Warhol once suggested that Coke’s sameness united us all: “A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the president knows it, the bum knows it and you know it.”

But, he says, “all of our consumer research indicates that from a taste standpoint, the difference is imperceptible.”

Yeah, right. Try them back to back. "Imperceptible" my ass.

i caught that. i guess thats the company line. ive been thinking that the should offer a vsop cocoacola in deposit 7 oz bottles. but then they would have to admit that "classic" coke isnt absolutely perfect and the coke standard. too bad. may be they will increase mexican coke imports. ive never seen it anywhere.

Mexican Coke is pretty common in California, and not just in Mexican markets. There's a fair amount of demand for Mexican products, for immigrants who want a taste of home, including various soda pops.

Sells for a buck a bottle in the grocery store. Somebody's making some money.

In your area you should be able to get cane sugar Coke during Passover. Corn isn't kosher enough.

I'd still like to get some original Coca-Cola, before they started denaturing the leaves used for flavoring.

I got a bottle at the Essex St. market recently. Not sure if it's a regular thing or not.
