I'd forgotten about bindles when I photoshopped Brian Hobbs' bats into asymmetric poles. I called them hobo poles as a way of making a tramp art reference, because that's what the carving looks like to me, shorn of any other heavy sociopolitical associations one might give the objects being carved.
