"....the deep and dirty little secret that
haunts much of design trade magazine writing to this day. The stories are written from pictures.
This approach may explain the lifeless copy, the vapid and skimpy text adjacent to the gorgeous
images. Very early on, I began to wonder how you could write about something you haven't
experienced. The quality of light, the colors, the textures, the space, the people in it--all need to
be perceived by a writer who tries to describe a room. After all, rooms are meant to be lived in,
worked in; it's there where we spend most of our lives. Because of this intense involvement with our
immediate surroundings, our rooms deserve to be treated with accordingly intense thought and
purpose."
