I think I can give a valid answer to this one? The s950 had a really, really bad timestretching algorythym that became a staple of the jungle sound. I think that was what was being refered to above.
also, I think that the tracker (impulse, octamed, fasttracker) has become the clearest interface choice for musicians doing the proto-jungle/noise thing. That is probably why I was confused on the topic.
of course jungle started with Akai...
