As someone who actually has been through litigation over a film I directed (which was then illegally sold after the fact) and won, I don't get the fuss over copyright law.

There is nothing greater for working, collaborative artists in this country than work-for-hire agreements, and there is absolutely no ground for using someone else's artwork without their permission. I understand that it sucks that that permission is often spread over hundreds of gnash-toothed lawyers, but that doesn't dimish the rights of organizations to own their things.

It's iditotic to think otherwise. Would you like someone to come and sample your couch? Or how's about your computer? Or your liver? It's fucking whorish.

Further, when we start seeing mix-films, artists will most certainly be unhappy to have a minute of say, Dead Man, juxtaposed with a few frames of Willy Wonka and then Deuce Bigelow.

The problem with sampling is that it degrades the original - it reduces total works to their catchiest parts, and exposes a retarded and adolescent regard for the hook, and not the completeness of a song, or perhaps even an album (like 69 Love Songs or the new Sujan thing...)

Even Paul's Boutique is catchy, yes, but it's anything but moving. It's retard party music for hipsters.

I say, fuck sampling. You want a hook? Write one.
