So could Usain Bolt actually break the world record in the long jump?

That was where the little girls took over gymnastics. Olga’s #1 teammate was the great Ludmilla Tourischeva who was rather more womanly. After that came Nadia Comaneci and the score of 10, doing away with perfection as a Platonic Ideal, or at least a moving target. Still, as America’s own pixie Cathy Rigby said: “Olga owned those games.”

Man, what a bendy back Olga had, and I love her unparallel bars routine.

not quite sure what nbc had in mind tonight. the first hour of prime time coverage was a tom brokaw greatest generation tribute as far as i could tell. i did not watch it. then towards the end they managed to squeeze in a promo for meet the press and killed off the last 10 minutes with a fluff piece about shakespeare. somewhere in there they decided to show about 15 minutes of the brazil v usa womens volleyball final. i guess if the us doesnt win then it didnt happen. im surprised they didnt cut out the middle two legs of the mens 4 x 100 meter relay once they realized that we wouldnt win that either. im sure there must have been a ryan seacrest taped interview they could cut to.

In second grade I was speed walking champion.

closing ceremonies a lot more bearable with twitter. i know, nobody is making me watch. the 1934 (?) movie version of 42nd st got nearly as much attention while it was on.

as someone mentioned all this schlocky pop music and no one thought to include duran duran doing rio which is the next summer games? maybe simon le bon wouldnt work for $1.50 which is what all the performers got paid.

also, nbc cut ray davies singing waterloo sunset but kept russell brand lip syncing to st. peppers. and im not that hot on wheeling out the octogenarians but zeppelin, right?

looks like when its time for rio to stereotype themselves it will be carnivale and capoiera. and sequins, lots and lots of sequins.

Models, actors, rock stars - they all belong on stage. Money money money. Eric Idle was a nice break although I'd rather the philosophers drinking song. But what, no Feddie Mercury hologram? Tupac gets all the love.

nbc decided to put two new sitcoms theyve been pimping for two week on before they play the who set. that should go over well.

sounds like jessie j has a new fan, jim.

i was pretty disappointed to find the wiggles on at 4 o'clock this afternoon, nbc. Didnt get to see as much as i'd have liked, but learned today alice wants to be either a synchronized swimmer (they dont call it water ballet anymore?) or rhythmic gymnast - which i never knew was evena thing til today. And why was it such a close match with spain in mens bball today?
- linda 8-13-2012 7:57 am

Exploding giant john Lennon death mask!? And where was the Amy winehouse tribute?

when did they ever call it water ballet, in a busby berkeley movie? heres a blog telling you what you can expect for the life of a synchronized swimmer. as for rhythmic gymnastic im pretty sure you have to be eastern european or asian to compete so unless she wants to move to bulgaria id focus on something else. how does she feel about badminton?

spain was the second best team in the tournament and the only one that might have been able to pull off an upset. and their best players, the gasol brothers, both all star centers in the nba, play the one position the us team was weakest, so there was some cause for concern. unfortunately for spain, one of the brothers was in foul trouble and didnt play half of the game. although now that i look at the box score, the one center usa did have only played nine minutes and wasnt in serious foul trouble. seems a little bit dubious but i guess they thought what they lost defensively would be made up on the offensive end. needless to say, the coach was pretty relieved when they finally made a little run towards the end to secure the victory and not besmirch his legacy as this was his final game coaching the olympic squad.

I, too, wanted to be a synchronized swimmer. That and a speed walker.
