thanks. one thing slate has been good at over the years although admittedly i am less inclined to read them than i once was (and i know this isnt slate) are multi-person dialogues when discussing an issue. maybe the conversations meander but it can be enjoyable for writer and reader to engage in. i would say that spills over into their podcasts, three of which i listen to regularly.
i liked auster's comment that coetzee's telling of the chess game on the ship was a horror story
