cant remember the last time i watched hockey. about as often as the rangers make the stanley cup final. so about every twenty years. pucks just about to drop for game one on nbc with the rangers taking on the la kings.. i think the play by play guy is an old rangers announcer so it takes me right back to 1983.

TAKE HIS HEAD OFF!!

tuned in for the final eight minutes tonight. after blowing two goal leads in the first two games and then losing the third at home the series is all but over. but they were winning 2-1 tonight so i thought id watch to see if they could hold on. and they nearly didnt owing to the slush between the goalies skates which slowed a puck to a halt just short of eclipsing the goal line. the shot had trickled through between the goalies pads and somehow he did not accidentally knock it home with his skates while searching for it as half a dozen players plowed into him. a ranger managed to get a glove on it and push it to safety and live to fight another day.

you're allowed to use hands in hockey?

in certain situations. you can grab the puck out of the air as long as you immediately drop it at your stick. you cant pass it or throw it or hold it. as far as this play goes, they said the player cant cover the puck with his glove (which would have resulted in a penalty shot) but apparently it was legal to push it forward with his fingers. here is the official rulebook on handling the puck.
