there's a little cr7 vs messi going on at our house. Ryley says messi peaked, is going down, maybe not getting re-signed, and ronaldo, while older, has way better hair and blah blah blah.

this is what it feels like to see your son embrace the dark side. just wait til its something harder.

ronaldo is very nearly the platonic ideal of a soccer player with all the flash and good looks. thats why it must be so irksome that not only does he have to get compared to messi but the majority either like messi better or, worse yet, think he is the best in the world. no one must have been happier to see argentina lose in the finals with a lackluster performance from messi than ronaldo as that would have solidified messis reputation as the best player of his generation and perhaps the best of all time.

as for messi not getting resigned, either he is talking trash or he may need a coach for his reading comprehension skills. while contracts in soccer arent iron clad as with other sports, messi is signed through 2018 and i think his buyout clause was $250,000,000. there are only 2 or 3 teams that would even consider spending that much. so unless he is supremely unhappy and forces barcelona to move him, he isnt going anywhere.

also, i forwarded ryleys remarks to messi and he told me he thinks ryley has peaked. and he told me to send him this. he mentioned something about clockwork orange but it was lost in translation.

clips of Messi's goals seem to average 5 seconds each, video is 41 min long.

yeah, you can drive yourself crazy trying to parse out the truth amidst the rumor mongering in the european soccer press. there are so many competing agendas at play.

i will say that if someone wanted to pay barcelona $300 million for messi in a year and a half when he is 29 from a team building perspective going forward it would be hard to pass up though it would be a pr nightmare. at that point he has maybe three or four years of peak performance and they could do a lot with that money if they were wise which they have not proven themselves to be lately. part of messis issues with the team is how dysfunctional the board and president have been in that regard.

ultimately i would be surprised if it happened but not entirely shocked.
