us open started today. beautiful puget sound backdrop. first one ever in the pacific northwest if you dont count northern california. also, the course is unusual. similar to something you might see in britain. no trees, brown grass, lots of bunkers and crazy undulating greens. and prime time finishes here on the east coast.

the leaders are more or less just underway.

two storylines -- one of the current leaders, jason day, is suffering from vertigo having nearly fainted his way out of the tournament two days earlier. i read the course was built in an old quarry and there seem to be a lot of stairs and walkways between holes that are giving him trouble.

and rory mcilroy is making a late run with a -6 on the day with five holes remaining and is currently two back of the leaders. just blew a pretty easy putt to go -7. loser.

crazy finish. spieth the 21 yo who won the masters earlier in year went up 3 on the 16th and then proceeded to double bogey on 17. now he is tied at 4 under with two others while playing 18, one player in the clubhouse, the other still to play 18.

spieth has about a 12 footer for eagle on 18.

one putt to win at about the same distance (maybe a little closer), two to tie for dustin johnson. spieth birdied.
