damn. nadal pushed to 5th set after winning the first two. and this italian is just making all his shots and running him all over the court. nadal as always working twice as hard to less effect.
also, ive watched too much tennis today. fourth match. this is why its best to wait until the second week. im sure not to care by the end of the tournament unless they are cant miss matchups. although the serena slam will keep me invested on the womens side should she make it through.
six straight breaks with nadal having to fight back after ceding the previous one. 4-4.

well, he is not your average #8 but this is his worst year by far with murmurings about the cliff he is driving his career off. the guy played really well. nadals serve faded and shit happens. but he has beat nadal on two other occasions this year so hardly unprecedented.

Wow. More great tennis. Fognini was in the zone. Outstanding. Ripping winners indeed.
it was suggested that nadal could use some fresh coaching as his uncle has been his coach from the beginning and its helped federer and serena late in their careers to find a new approach. but he may be loyal to a fault. i think (and i dont know anything) that all that muscled up topspin can be really effective on clay (which is why he is the greatest of all time on that surface) as the ball will bite down and then pop up in unpredictable ways but on the hardcourt it can just come off as a not entirely deep ball which was exploitable.
