as far as the story goes gregg popovich the coach of the spurs was the godfather of nba wine culture. the nba players followed rap culture with cristal and cognac and bottle service as the outward expression of wealth. but i think popovich as their olympics head coach turned melo, lebron james and chris paul among others into wine aficionados and others followed suit as they were the alpha trendsetters.
