i was trying to figure out what color the gesso (underpainting) was on ur piece and how it was pigmented. with gold leafing they use an underpainting of bole (or clay) which is often red. ive been thinking about pigmenting gesso lately. you can get black and white off the shelf but i was thinking an iron oxide red gesso would be useful. so i have to back out or replace the white part of the gesso so it doesnt go pink.

i now understand what u have is plating or metallizing coat on non-metalic surfaces and not leafing.
