the new house majority douchebag is on this week with stuffinenvelopes. he said weve sacrificed thousands of lives in iraq and hundreds of taxpayer money. he started to mouth "millions" (after hundreds) but then realized it sounded like alot so he cut himself off. oh, and were winning in iraq.

john kerry is on meet the tim. lets see what mr "too late to take a hard(ish) line position" has to say. ok, its never too late, except when it is.

kerry had some kind of equivocal fallback language in his "tough" statement that left open the possibility of permanent bases. arrg.
from the antiwar.com blog:

But look carefully, apparently Bush's frat brother couldn't resist the thought that he might be president some day and might like to have an expanded Middle Eastern footprint of his own. On the subject of complete withdrawal from Iraq by the end of the year if they do succeed in creating a government:

"...leaving only those forces critical to completing the mission of standing up security forces of Iraq [sic]."

This is an obvious loophole for the indefinite occupation of those "enduring" bases they've been building. Though in this age of "inherent" and "plenary" executive authority, what difference does it make what a law says anyway?

i recall kerry actually brought up the issue of permanent bases during one of the presidential debates but never heard much follow-up on it. he definitely said (today) that forces should remain in the region but he didnt say where. would have been a good follow-up question but it wasnt asked. i dont know what sort of footprint he would like to see in iraq. i did like that he said the administration claims to have trained 240000 iraqi soldiers in which case they ought to take over security. not that exposing the administrations lies seems to make much of a difference in how they are perceived by the media elites. and until the democrats are unified behind a position, these haphazard proposals dont have much weight behind them.

and i didnt know what it meant but i knew how to spell it -- "plenary."

i fixed it, I should take more care with rants i cut and paste.

did Kerry look like his usual frozen faced man from another social planet?

he seemed fairly relaxed for him, and he tried not to equivocate about his equivocations.

the entire show (according to timmeh) is now available to stream at the mtp website every sunday at 1pm est. so you can judge for yourself.
