Rudy!
-- If he's nominated, he's a real threat. Look at the governator, for example. Is Dobson playing some kind of Kabuki so that the left doesn't worry about Rudy?

feh. noones anointing rudy in republican circles. this diarist while well intentioned doesnt have a clue. im not suggesting rudy wouldnt be a catastrophe but give me a well thought out diatribe over this knuckle biter, please.

Rudy probably scares me as much as he scares this diarist. One of my co-w*rkers, a liberal, thinks Rudy "looks presidential" and that's all you need nowadays. The media outside NY seem to be making a concerted effort to freeze the moment when the Mayor shined on national TV (ie screening out all the abundant evidence of his incompetence and sleaze before and after that wonderful "bring us together" moment).

republicans

I think your co-worker is sniffing glue. I was looking for a better picture to illustrate my point but this one is close enough. Even McCain, the second least presidential looking candidate is laughing at how un-presidential looking Rudy is. Giuliani always looks like he has to go to the bathroom.

The point is, when buildings are toppling he stands up like a man and looks at the camera and tells America, "Daddy is here."

Alls I'm saying is we highly edumacated, urbane, worldly Californians elected a fucking cartoon character. Overwhelmingly.

Oh I'm not arguing that a country that elected W twice won't somehow also fall for the Giuliani myth, I'm just saying, based on looks alone (the presidential look), he ain't got it. Just like, uh, Nixon didn't. I've only watched one of the Repub debates but I don't remember Rudy being able to play his 911 hero card that much. But even from this far out its all looking kind of familiar. A bunch of scary republicans versus some democrats no one is all that crazy about. Mark, you guys got an action hero, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Arnold got his ass handed to him during a round of initiatives. (Initiatives are another whole topic. Legislation by ballot.) He backed several, they all went down in flames. Arnold changed his tune, and is now functionally a Dem (at least inside of CA).

I don't see the Republicans running for president (e.g. Giuliani) being the type that would bend to the will of the people. Most of them would follow the Bush messianic model.

Speaking of presidential looking
