i always like to give credit to msmers when they confront their betters in the blogosphere and elsewhere. here chuck todd faces off with glenn greenwald who took him to task yesterday. sadly chuck is greatly outmatched intellectually. sad for us that is.
i suppose the one problem i have with greenwalds critique is the notion that since todd is a "reporter" this should preclude him from espousing an opinion on an issue. maybe greenwald is suggesting that todd cloaks himself in the guise of objectivity while delivering a subjective analysis but i doubt todd views himself strictly as a reporter despite being nbcs whitehouse reporter. hes also their political director (whatever that is) and is used to dispensing opinion. dont really think these things are mutually exclusive anymore.
Learned some beltway euphemisms for Todd's defense of Rove and Cheney: "how this town works," "the 30,000 feet level," and "you can't make me a spokesperson." Todd and his ilk revel in political trials over blowjobs but think political trials over torture are just too icky.
or the orwellian notion that our standing abroad would be tarnished if we held ourselves to our own standards of morality. how can we hold america up as the paragon of virtue if we admit to being without virtue?

I don't think Greenwald has a problem with Todd expressing an opinion. His issue is that Todd's opinion sucks balls.

It's funny Todd agreed to do that phone-in. He obviously thinks he's one of the good guys and wants to convince us but can't see his own double standard--that "political trials" are only bad when Repubs are the defendants.
