This is interesting, thanks.
During the period Wallace describes as stalling on Stewart's part, I'm guessing they were negotiating a list of things JS could and couldn't say.
It's been widely reported that Roger Ailes sends daily memos to all the blowdried heads telling them what their conservative talking points for the day are going to be. I kept waiting for Steward to mention that.
Also, pardon me while I gag at the flattery of Wallace. The man actually seems to believe he is not on a propaganda team.

fox really should be called "smug and unbalanced". wallace acts just like his father who must have really done a number on him to the point where becoming a conservative was the ultimate "fuck you, dad!" stewart should have said that your dad may have invented the morally superior shit eating grin but youve perfected it. im sure wallace would have taken that as a compliment. but i doubt stewart would agree to not bring up memos ailes sent or anything else. what purpose would that have? he wasnt anxious to be on the show. he was returning a courtesy. but i agree the flattery was unnecessary and unfounded. wallace seems bright enough to know hes full of shit and smug enough to be proud of it.

It's just that there's been so much written about how tightly Ailes controls Fox--even Murdoch can't stand him apparently. Wallace is somewhat convincingly skeptical to me about claims that Fox isn't fair and I would have used Ailes to beat him about the head and face and try to wipe that dumb grin off his face. Which led me to speculating that Roger limits had been put on the convo.

I am told that Keith Olbermann showed a clip that was cut out of this interview, where Stewart mentioned the name of a person (not Ailes) responsible for message discipline at Fox. So my suspicions had some basis. Might have been better for Stewart to nix the interview rather than submit to the final cut of grinning bully Wallace. But then Stewart does things I'll never understand, like have Bill Kristol on his show (another evil smiler).

Stewart's postmortem is good.

i believe the person is bill sammon and i heard him referenced in the interview. afaik this is the complete interview but the one broadcast on tv was edited down.

stewart may be misguided and certainly pulls his punches with conservatives in an effort to engage in conversation but i think we are better off that he makes the effort.

I was under the impression that the Sunday political chat shows were not edited. How naive! Admittedly, when I watch them I watch the oldies, Meet the Press and Face the Nation, rather than the Fox atrocity. The mere sight of Kristol is painful.
