video footage of explosion near waco taken from a car at some distance. as the disclaimer stated, not for the faint of heart as a child in the car has hearing damaged from the blast.

If you look at goog maps this facility is right in town. Across the street from the high school and old folks home. IN TOWN! Looks like metal sheds, near RR tracks, not state of the arts by any means. Could have been down the road a safe distance from town and still have access to the RR tracks. Poor kid... Also, West, Texas TX. Is in central Texas (heart of texas) on I35 btwn Waco and Dallas. Closer to Waco and only 7 miles south of Abbott tx, Willies home town.

changed to "near waco." whoever named that town "west, texas" must have been a joker unless their name was "west."

"It is named after T.M. West, the first postmaster of the city."

well, that was awful.

Yeah, mr west.

Hey, what's the deal with the "Mid-West". Anything east of the Missusip ain't very west.

Also kids, when fertilizer plants, grain elevators, fireworks factories, refineries or munitions plants are are fire, RUUUUUN or drive very far away.

i heard that the boy is fine, btw. oh and mark, i changed my side view mirrors on my car - no more blind spot! thanks for that. why do we all have them pointing to the side of the car anyway?

There is an annual Czech festival in West called Westfest. I have been! Lots of polkaing, beer, and people wearing buttons that say "Kiss me I'm Czech."

It's a girl. The ringing went away agar a while. I've been to Abbott tx to check it out. There was an inter metro electric RR that ran the era, Dallas-Waco.

Midwest goes back to when anything beyond the Appalachians was west. That's why the University of Michigan fight song lauds the Wolverines as "the champions of the West."

Linda, on the mirrors thing, it's some sort of drivers ed lore. "So you know where the mirror is pointed", A modification of that is: when you move your head it's very nice to be able to see your fenders. For everyone else, this was in reference to this. No matter how the side mirrors are set, I still habitually turn my head for a quick look before changing lanes. Many moons ago that help me avoid a collision with a motorcycle cop who passed me on the right at about 130 mph. I have no fucking idea why he did such a damn fool thing. The road I was on was absolutely empty (or so I thought), and the turning of the head was just trained reflex.

I haven't been to Abbott. My grandmother talked about taking the interurban between Dallas and Waco, possibly during her college years, which would have been the '20s.

"Apart from the DHS, the West Fertilizer site was subject to a hodgepodge of regulation by the EPA, OSHA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Office of the Texas State Chemist. "

When the fertilizer plant was built in 1962, local residents said, it was about a mile north of the rest of town.
