gag gulled

We are very close to the end:

The US embassy in Baghdad circulated a memo to all Americans working for the US government in the Green Zone. It ordered them to wear protective gear whenever they were outside in the Green Zone, including just moving from one building to another. Guerrillas have managed to lob a number of rockets into the area in recent days, and killed one US GI on Tuesday.
What the fuck are they going to do? Move the green zone to Kurdistan? They cannot move it out of Baghdad (would be admitting defeat,) but they also cannot defend it (no way to clear a large enough security corridor around it to stop rockets because hundreds of thousands of people live in the immediate area.) So I guess they will just sit there until a rocket gets lucky and hits something important. Then we'll pull out like in Beirut after the Marine barracks bombings.

What other scenarios are there?

The fabulous David E says that Obama is a 'Magic Negro' -- a non-threatening black man upon whom white Americans can rely.

Rush felt that this reference entitlee him to sing (to the tune of Puff the Magic Dragon) "Barack, the Magic Negro, doo doo do doo."

I really don't know anything about the fabulous David E, but I took note of this paragraph:

Poitier really poured on the "magic" in "Lilies of the Field" (for which he won a best actor Oscar) and "To Sir, With Love" (which, along with "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," made him a No. 1 box-office attraction). In these films, Poitier triumphs through yeoman service to his white benefactors. "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" is particularly striking in this regard, as it posits miscegenation without evoking sex. (Talk about magic!)
I just saw "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner". While there was much less on-screen fucking than in "Boogie Nights" -- very much less -- the topic of sex was broached, in an oblique 1960's PG sort of way. Specifically, the two fathers were chided for being dried up old farts who had forgotten the power of hot monkey love. But I guess the oblique reference wasn't fabulous enough.

By the way, this whitie supports Obama because he was against the Iraq war when 90% of the country was stupid on Bush.

im not particularly impressed by this 1984/apple parody. i suppose it reinforces the idea that hillary is the establishment candidate but who didnt know that. no matter how clever political ads they are a blight on intelligent debate. but then, whod want that? once again, the real story is youtube. the viral distribution is the message.

i cant even begin to imagine one good thing to say about karl rove but i was just watching a rerun of keith olbermann and during the entire segment while discussing roves involvement in the prosecutor scandal they had "turdblossom" under his picture. seemed a little unseemly for a news organization to go there. but then what do i know of decorum?

Yeehaw! Where's that "Mission Accomplished" banner!

Oh, wait ... what's this in paragraph 13 ...

In the 27 days leading up to the operation, 528 people were killed in bombings around the capital, according to AP figures. In the first 27 days of the operation, the bombing death toll stood at 370 — a drop of about 30 percent.

Best. Two word encapsulation of the enduding clusterfuck of a train wreck and meat grinder that is Iraq. Evar: Hollow Victory
.
Perhaps this kind of formulation could get the Dems out from under the cloud of fear of being cast as the "war losers". Hey, we won. We all saw the victory party. Mission Fucking Accomplished. Boo yah! It's just that it was not the victory we wanted, since it had nothing to do with threats to the US homeland. Further, handing Iraq over from Sunni thugs to Shiite thugs seems rather pointless. But what's done is done. Saddle up and move out.

Beyond all these huge tasks, Congress should halt the federal government’s race to classify documents to avoid public scrutiny — 15.6 million in 2005, nearly double the 2001 number. It should also reverse the grievous harm this administration has done to the Freedom of Information Act by encouraging agencies to reject requests for documents whenever possible. Congress should curtail F.B.I. spying on nonviolent antiwar groups and revisit parts of the Patriot Act that allow this practice.

The United States should apologize to a Canadian citizen and a German citizen, both innocent, who were kidnapped and tortured by American agents.

Oh yes, and it is time to close the Guantánamo camp. It is a despicable symbol of the abuses committed by this administration (with Congress’s complicity) in the name of fighting terrorism.

What followed was riveting theater, with Kerry coldly staring down a clearly-nervous Fox and Bush's nominee withstanding a barrage of questions from Kerry that the Massachusetts Senator nicely referred to as questions of Fox's "judgment" while many of us would have just flat-out called him a scumbag.
