Urformen (1928) and Kunstformen (1899-1904)

Saw these plant plates the other day -- I can't recall where -- and bookmarked'em. Then Cory posted a link. So I wasn't going to. But I changed ny mind, perhaps because there's a kinship with these Haeckel plates -- from which the image at the head of this page comes.

The last time I visited Terence he showed me a multi- volume set of first edition Haeckel he had aquired in South Africa. I was mesmerized by engravings of things I had seen hurling thru space the night before. The photos of the horsetails, the plant, have the similar effect of something seen in, excuse the archaism, Cubic Stropharia.

I love these prints, found many on Ebay when someone took a book apart two years ago, gave some away as gifts and framed 6 for us to in-joy.....
