genghis blues from friends of tuva
New Age throat singing from David Hykes. He did a lecture for the "visual arts as a profession" class at Parsons when I was there. I can't remember the name of the woman who ran that class, but she brought in some interesting people, including John Cage and Yoko Ono. Supposedly they were going to tell you about being a professional artist, but things tended to get a bit off track. Maybe the administration wondered what Mongolian chanting had to do with visual art, because the teacher was purged, and the class became a boring series of talks by faculty members. I must admit that the students weren't very responsive to Hykes, and he got rather prissy about their inattention, but 25 years later he's made a career of it, so I guess someone's listening.
