Nice collection (well OK, I could do without Fritz The Cat) Hows Ballad of Ramblin' Jack, The?
Also, why buy rather than rent? How many times do you watch any one of these?

theyre basically impulse purchases and i tend to bargain shop, but you can lend them out or trade and generally get good use out of them. i can watch a movie a couple of times and then again a year or so later. plus i dont have cable and i dont go out to many movies, so i look on it as an indulgence.

There are some movies I'd like to own dvd copies of. I've got a limited-edition lazerdisc of 2001 which features a bonus 30 min documentary on the making of the movie. I've heard it was shot on set in 16mm but I've never seen it. Lazerdisc decks are getting tougher to find these days.
Are you using Amazon as a database for your collection? An iTunes-like onlline query for gathering disc info would be cool. Maybe iDVD does that already? Did you see this times article?

i did see the article. thats where i read about dvd aficionado. what do you mean as a database?

I mean like a catalog of your collection where you can cross-refference titles with actors, directors etc.
Oops, at first glance I thought the link in original post was an amazon page, it is dvd aficianado. Looks like the directors are cross-refferenced. Actors, producers, writers, DPs etc would be useful., they'll probably get around to that.

I see, hitting imdb link (next to price) leads to list of actors which link to filmographies.
How's Ballad of Ramblin' Jack? I haven't seen it.

imdb (internet movie data base?) lists Kid Blue One I saw when it was relaesed but have never found since. (it did play at Film Forum for a night or so a couple of years ago) looks promising.
