WC Fields slings some bullshit.
One of the greats, but his memory seems to have dimmed. When I was a kid his voice was still a pop-cult fixture, though he’d been dead for a generation. Local beverage bottler (in Detroit we called it “pop”) Faygo had commercials with a sound-alike and even little kids understood the reference. I’m not sure that’s the case now; co-star Mae West is better-remember today.
I think a new generation will find him. The Bank Dick is a completely modern comedy (cynical, absurd) that bears repeated viewing. Many lines are in the memorable quotes on IMDb.
This scene has a similar feel--I like the way the man in the top hat gets more and more darkly skeptical in his questions.
"What a gorgeous day. What effulgent sunshine. It was a day of this sort the McGillicuddy brothers murdered their mother with an axe."
