Arthur C. Clarke, science fiction writer, prophesier of geosynchronous orbit, and all around visionary, passed away yesterday. He was 90 years old. Here's his wikipedia page.

And here are some interesting excerpts from his diary written during the filming of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

same birthday as moi. i used to use "david bowman" as an alias w/o realizing it was the main character from 2001. interesting that he seemed to write the novel in concert with kubricks plan to make it into a movie.

A genuine visionary. I saw him lecture when I was in high school. The audience was full of fanboys but we were disappointed as he was quite dry and only talked about satellites and Ceylon, as if Kubrick and scifi were lesser matters. Everyone who's seen 2001 while tripping raise your hand ^...

I read that Rendezvous with Rama was in production with David Fincher (?) directing. That's a good but fairly cold book--they're going to have to sex it up somehow.
