In one of the most unexpected news stories in recent memory Disney has just purchased Lucasfilm , for $4.05 billion—a business deal that will spur the creation of more Star Wars movies, beginning with the release of Star Wars: Episode 7 targeted for 2015.

If Lucas isn't involved it at least has a chance at being good. 4 billion seems low somehow.

Jim, remember that Lucas does not own the early Star War movies so Disney does not get the original trilogy..... This woman is now in charge and a real force in the scene

  • i think to jims point is that each of the future star wars movies will easily gross over a billion dollars not even figuring the merch. so the next trilogy alone should cover the cost of the purchase. i dont know who owns the future indiana jones rights, too. and owning industrial light and magic must have some value.

    the marvel deal was 4 billion as well and in some ways they have a deeper reservoir of characters and worlds to explore. although theres plenty of room to grow in the star wars universe as well.

    ultimately its good for everyone as lucas had sucked the joy out of his own creation. fortunately he released the property for future development instead of burying it for no good reason.

well, he had over 3 billion before this deal so.... it think he made a couple of shitty movies since '87 that did ok at the box office.
