I haven't seen the original but could this really be any worse?

  • yes. obviously i was younger than you so i had a different perspective but even if the gags were puerile i think chase was a legit funny actor. hamm can be funny but it looks like they didnt want to take the character that far into slapstick. i heard hamm say theres a lot of fletch stories and he would love to keep making them as long as they let him. if this is straight to a streaming service it could pull decent numbers but i cant imagine it would do well in the theaters. yeah, so i dont know how that translates monetarily.

The film will have a limited theatrical run which will begin on September 16, 2022. The film will be made available on premium video-on-demand services on September 16, 2022, before eventually becoming an exclusive title for Showtime. Confess Fletch will arrive on the premium cable network and its streaming platform on October 28, 2022.

    • its funny and probably not wrong that ebert blames chase for flattening the character by way of his glib persona but problem i have with hamm is that he always sounds like jon hamm which worked well for inhabiting one role as an virtual unknown but mostly now that its a known quantity i dont hear him inhabiting anything else. just sounds like jon hamm acting.
