hens in the foxhouse juan cole suggests that the media climate in the post 911 world "forced" the new york times to give miller more lattitude in her coverage. basically, the papers leadership got sand kicked in their face by fox, and after they were done crying, they ran home and ordered the charles atlas booklet from the back of a comicbook so they could stand up to o' reilly next time he tried to steal their lunch money. please, they should have done what every other sane liberal does, not even bother to listen to those assholes. but if this is about market share, as he cole contends, then all hope is already lost for them.
kos wants to believe but most of the kossacks (thus far) dont.
I don't buy it either. The Times was always right in there cheerleading with the rest of the media mob. Safire, Friedman... Voices of dissent slipped in and the right howled but they howl about everything off message.
I like Gilliard's theory that the sniper had Beltway types so on edge they couldn't think straight and begged Strong Bush to end their fear. Bunch of babies, can't take a few random bullets at gas stations.
