its katharine and cavett. thats two strikes. whos going to watch strike three go by?

fun nonetheless. its almost easier to have them lose in person than watch on tv.

funnier in retrospect. very odd little section we had. as upper deck seats go, we couldnt have done better. third row directly behind home plate. in front and to the left of us we had the high fivers. once you submit to one, you are expected at every high fiving moment henceforth to have your hand slapped. we even proceeded to more complex handshaking maneuvers. very heady territory. then there was a older hispanic guy behind us who midgame breaks out this horn sans mouthpiece and would blow it on occasion. the sound he made was akin to an animal being tortured, however. i found it endlessly amusing but someone else didnt and a ruckus did ensue when this someone called an usher to have him corked. so that was the end of that. then in the last half of the ninth some character walks down to the front of our aisle who i hadnt seen otherwise and rallied the fans with belushi-esque elan. unfortunately the mets didnt stay true to the script and now the fox executives gently weep.

...ah yes, the old walk-off look; only thing worse is forcing in the winning run on a base on balls: the walk-off walk...

Sounds like the show was just as good up in the stands. Your description is hilarious.

well, they probably thought i was strange with my threadbare 30 year old mets ski cap and polarized sunglasses which i had on the entire game. i highly recommend the filtered light for any night game, btw. very soothing.

and speaking of recommending, we stopped at an irish pub on the way out in queens where a friend of my friends worked as a bartender. our waitress was remiscent of the one who jack nicholson terrorizes in five easy pieces, yet this did not deter my friend from asking if the kitchen ought to remove the bun from his burger (low carb dieting) or should he do it himself, and also, what dressing she would recommend for the desultory chicken salad we would receive. her terse response: creamy italian. i suggested it wasnt exactly the place nor she the waitress for such probing questions. this wasnt fine dining (it was barely so-so dining), it was outerboro pub food. when they serve iceberg lettuce its not to be innovative. its not a artful wedge sprinkled with fairy dust dressing, its a flacid pile of chopped vegetable matter with a dollop of goo.

and as far as moments of artistry outside of endy chavez breath taking over-the-wall catch, it was quite a sight to see 50000 plus waving the white towels handed out at the gate upon entry. then when beltran struck out looking to end the game to see hundreds of these towels parachuting out of the stands (along with a few beers) was quite a lovely tribute to the death of a season.
