my latest pet peeve - players who ask for a towel after every point. i suppose it smart but more often than not it just seems like its become a fetish, like that annoying grunting with every shot.
And what's with taking 4 or 5 balls before every serve, looking at them, and then throwing 2 or 3 back? Are they really spotting some imperfections? If they are wouldn't they want the balls removed rather than just put back into rotation? Seems like a fetish as well - or at least a superstition. "This one looks like a winner!"
yeah that one bugged me the other day too but i suppose its possible some wear out quicker than others. i dont know how many games are played before they switch to new balls. but Around 40,000 tennis balls are used during the Australian open.
Balls are changed over every nine games. The first change happens after seven games because they are also used in the pre-match warm-up. After a extended break in play, usually caused by rain, a re-warm-up is done with a separate set of balls and then when play resumes with the use of the match balls.
womens semis start up in about an hour. expecting rain tomorrow to muck things up.
In the men's doubles there were some tight shots of hand signals. Payback for the women's volleyball no doubt. I suppose in they played in the rain in briefs, it would be more fair.
murray! murray! unfortunately i think the rain delay wil be a big help for nadal, i'm convinced he would have lost if play had continued today. can't they get a couple of indoor courts for finals?
what have you got against swarthy spaniards? im happy to see someone new reach elite status but federer-nadal is still what you want to see. meanwhile, djokovic is turning into this generations ivan lendl. same haircut too.
I just can't support Nadal's choice in shorts. I'm with Linda: Go Murray!
nike is set to reoutfit him with some new duds including shorts above the knee and sleeves but they didnt want to mess with his major win streak so theyre going to roll it out later this year.
funny that murray said this is his favorite tournament. maybe he was pandering but i can imagine that the pressure to win at wimbledon is daunting.

way to jinx him. nadal seems like he swings really hard yet with diminishing returns. almost seems like hes punching the ball . must be all that topspin. i think its baseball where they call that "muscling the ball" whereas murray relies more on his length and racquet speed to generate power.

Yeah, Murray totally lost it for a minute after I posted. But wow I can't believe how well he played down the stretch. Maybe the best tennis I've ever seen? (From Murray I mean.) Incredible win. I'm going to have to root against Mr. Rolex in the final. (I am Scottish after all.)
yay murray!!! what great tennis, murray made it seem pretty effortless. i/m scottish too about time our peoples got into the finals.
what linda has forgotten is she and alice have been routing for murrey since he almost lost to the unseated guy in the early part (i routed for the underdog than but an "murray murray murray" like the girls now)....the house pirate could care less....skinney

i paused the tv so long that when alice changed the channel in the second set (2-2), and i changed the channel back to 2, federer was just winning and i couldn't see any of the rest of it. damn! was it a good match? RECORD RECORD RECORD!
federer was just too good today and murray too inexperienced.
