not exactly my cup of tea but i thought the debut of smash was well executed. and as nbc is desperate for a hit (and id like something to watch thats not reality-based) im sort of rooting for it.

one major problem.

If there’s a problem with Smash it’s that the show doesn’t really avoid cliché. Indeed, it steers right toward every cliché in its path. That’s going to be a dealbreaker for a lot of people, who may be hoping for something more original in its storytelling. But the show is so damned sincere about how much it embraces the clichés of the backstage Broadway story that those inclined to like this sort of thing—and I’m very much one of them—will forgive it some of these excesses.

We watched, of course, but I can't believe you did. Cliche is right, holy cow. But I guess good enough to keep with it for the next episode at least. Still, I can't imagine having any less interest in Broadway musicals.

i wasnt eager to see it but i was curious. theres probably a good story involving broadway backstage machinations but im not quite sure this is it.
