another new show alert -- the bridge debuts tonight on fx. this reviewer has high hopes for it. another serialized detective murder mystery show, this time set at the mexican border in el paso and juarez.
another positive review from a someone i like.
We'll probably keep watching but I wasn't blown away. Hard to work up much connection to the lead character who just seems like a weird amalgamation of all the quirks of the Monk, House, Sherlock Holmes type investigator, without any of the humor or depth. She might as well be a robot. Also the dialog was embarrassingly bad at points (not that this stops me from watching many other shows....) Still, like I said, probably good enough to watch in the summer TV waste land.
i tivoed it. knee deep into justified which as far as summer viewing goes is pretty good once it gets going about halfway into the first season.
something else i downloaded but havent watched is endeavour which is airing on pbs but was a bbc product so its all up. its a four part mystery series. looks very britishy.
Broen, the danish version, is great.
Liked episode 2 of The Bridge much more.
tried to watch the first episode tonight, and though i may have been prejudiced by a podcast review i listened to yesterday, the character and the performance from diane kruger seem awful. the aspergery cop is almost a cliche right now. its like they didnt have enough confidence in the story so they had to make the character quirky. but kruger, at least in the little i saw, doesnt have the acting ability to pull it off. whoops. i just reread what jim originally wrote. quirky, check. aspergery, check. ill see if i can slog it out until it gets better but i was 15 minutes in and i turned it off when i realized there was another hour and 15 to go.
