interesting to see how this duck dynasty business plays out. if you dont know one of the dudes was interviewed by gq and said some reliably retrograde things about homosexuals and african americans and for that he was suspended from the current shooting schedule. but the network already has an entire season shot. the show is hugely popular. i think the previous season finale had 14 million viewers which is huge especially for a cable show but these days those are top 5 numbers for any show. so how do they proceed? will advertisers be scared off even if the numbers remain high? got to assume that most viewers of that show wont be turned off enough by the professed sentiments to not tune in but hard to believe there wont be pressure put on the advertisers by rights activists. maybe it will all blow over, at least one imagines that the network and advertisers hope it might.

still i wonder if there is a home on tv for this show in the future or is it destined for the internet in some capacity? or will it just be put out to pasture? how much tripe is there to be mined from their antics?

I know nothing about the show or the controversy, just what is it? That some cracker said something homophobic and racist? Isn't this the kind of talk that reality tv has been trading on since the early days of Donahue?

well, donahue was the star and moral center of the show. the rest were side show performers. though later on when the gooey liberal center is removed and all you are left with is jerry springer a better case could be made. but even while indulging and ultimately stage managing on springer type shows their antics and retrograde opinions werent validated. of course, i never watched it but thats my sense.

but we do live in a fox news universe that does pander for political and financial ends to this sensibility. but even they, i suspect, prefer the bells and whistles approach to bald face pronouncements when they can help it.

and yes, he made some racist and homophobic remarks under the cover of his christian faith among others equating the sinfulness of gay sex with beastiality and suggesting anecdotally that blacks in the south were happier under jim crow laws. as the show is a reality show in the 21st century sense it was able to edit around what they deemed inappropriate or uncomfortable. they just wanted the warm and cuddly version of these "real" folks not the reality.

and it seems "the whole camo and beard thing is a fabricated image" used to sell their merchandise well before their tv fame. heres one of the sons family photos from an earlier time.

Next you're going to tell me Larry the Cable Guy is fake ... that he doesn't even install DOCIS 3.0 cable modems while engaging in witty, redneck banter.

LTCG had a very different stand up persona prior to LTCG.
