stumbled across this yesterday: the detectorists. definitely wistful and subtle. think its on netflix.
This "wistful, subtle comedy" (Guardian, UK) was selected by the New York Times and the Hollywood Reporter as one of 2016's best shows. Winner of the BAFTA Award for best comedy, the series follows the eccentric members of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club as they search for treasure in the English countryside. Written and directed by star Mackenzie Crook (The Office), Detectorists also features outstanding performances by Toby Jones (The Hunger Games), Rachael Stirling (The Bletchley Circle), and Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones).
Itís a sure sign Iím getting old that I find it jarring to see Diana Rigg cited for GoT instead of The Avengers. Thatís the 60ís British spy Avengers, not what kids today would recognize as The Avengers, although in her day she would have made a great Black Widow, and already had the costume.
i prefer to think of her as Contessa Teresa "Tracy" Draco di Vicenzo/Bond.
I've watched a couple of seasons. there is a certain cringe quality to it. still i watch. emma peel!
I liked the subtlety so much that I stopped watching after three episodes.
oh, beaten to the punch! im into it. finished the first season (six eps) last night. third and final season underway.
