still intrigued by this. so its directed and i suppose written by olivier assayas who wrote and directed a movie by the same name in 1996 which starred maggie cheung who he would then go on to marry and later divorce. and the director within the film has the same history which we learn from him as he speaks to his therapist while suggesting the remaking of the movie for this tv show is sort of a form of therapy in itself. we see at least one clip from that movie as well as many from the original movie intercut with the tv series within a tv series we are seeing made both based on the french silent film les vampires.

I saw the 1996 version and thought it was very good.
