busy tv time.

got hung up mid season of season 2 of the white lotus. always irksome when a wife finds a condom in husbands room but it isnt his but she thinks it is which is where i turned it off. hopefully that will resolve itself sooner than later.

succession is full steam ahead to the finish. all caught up on that. same with season 2 of yellowjackets which stumbled out of the gate. im all in but its a slow burn.

still never finished season 3 of barry as it got dark and depressing but season 4 which is end game started so figure to get to that at some point.

never made it through ep 1 of poker face nor season 2 of russian doll. dark times for natasha lyonne.

ted lasso is ending its three season run. was almost out on it but up to date on it so far.

mrs maisel is back for its final season. not enthusiastic about it but will get sucked in at some point.

two eps in to beef. curious where its headed but not diving in headlong.

new shows this week i havent sampled:

mrs davis

dead ringers

the diplomat

what did i end up watching yesterday?

chimp empire

heres one i will likely not watch. maybe we can get mike on board.

Summary: Camille (Fleur Geffrier) learns she will inherit her father's wine collection if she passes a series of wine tasting tests against his "spiritual son" Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita) in this French-Japanese drama adaptation of the Japanese manga series of the same name created by Tadashi Agi.

was just listening to my favorite succession pod post episode because that show is great and i like to hear people smarter than me unpack it, and at the end of the show they vindicated this post by name checking every show that like me they needed to watch except ted lasso and mrs maisel. even my postscript wine show got a mention. ok, chimp empire was not on the list but the dna of chimp empire runs through all of us, literally and otherwise.  well now, thinking back yellowjackets was not mentioned either. it is covered elsewhere in their larger podcasting universe but it is surprising as one of the two podcasters is an avowed horror fan. maybe you just cant cover it all.

catching up. bout half way through mrs davis which id recommend if you like damon lindelofs output, that being lost & the leftovers. this is more absurdist bordering on farce but firmly in the universe of questions about religion and our reason for being. i just read it probably wont get a second season so eat up. betty gilpin is great in the lead. i only know her from the ladies wrestling comedy glow but she was also on nurse jackie.

and finally finished episode 1! of poker face but full steam ahead now. full steam!

saw our misbegotten webmaster last week. they already watched the diplomat AND beef so i am feeling chastened.

what else did i start watching?

citadel on amazon, a cheesy spy thriller which apparently they threw a lot of money at. i think it was the russo brothers who did the thanos arc at mcu and have since made a bunch of middling shit for streamers.

and silo over on apple which maybe is better? i cant tell after two episodes but am a sucker for the post apocalyptic setting with a mysterious origin story waiting to be unraveled.

I started plumbers. They are hamming it up a bit.

a little embarrassed to learn plumbers "stop leaks."

I guess I just didn't think it through.

status update!!!

succession ended last night and like many i am sad to see it go. satisfying yet unsatisfying conclusion. i had one quibble with a characters motivation but not having lived in their fictive shoes i cant deny them their truth. any show that has a character broken staring out into the abyss from a bench in battery park contemplating their failures gets me. id like to think being a billionaire would soften the blow but im sure id find a way to despair as well.

watched a handful of the poker face eps now. well constructed but kind of disappointing. rian johnson who has made the two knives out movies is deep into his mysteries bag. this as everyone suggested has an air of columbo mixed in with the drifter trope moving town to town or ep to ep on the run from her past. but at its heart is a week to week procedural which rises and falls on the case but really is more of a showcase for the actors he is able to assemble along with his current muse, natasha lyonne. biggest problem for me is the built in conceit that lyonnes character can without fail read whether a person is lying which tips the scales for every episode as the only thing left to solve in this light hearted murder of the week is why are they lying, as the key to unraveling the case. so its feeling kind of trite 5 eps in.

think thats about it. plan on but still havent finished mrs davis. silo is almost intriguing. citadel, less so though amazon has big plans for it so its not going anywhere.

ted lasso has its series finally remaining this week.

still in last season with barry.

watched 10 seconds of the diplomat and turned it off.

havent returned to beef nor looked at dead ringers, or white house plumbers or class of 09.

white lotus still on mid season hiatus

cant think of anything thats jumped the queue.

oh, yellowjackets ended. im still in on that. i think it was a generally well regarded second season though im more intrigued by its timeline in the past then i am where its headed in the future.
